2007 – 2008 CRITERIA FOR SCHOOL OF CONTRIBUTION

 

First Year Applicants:

1.	80% of the teachers and administrators have been trained.

2.	70% of the children in the school complete a service learning project during the year.  If a school completes a school-wide project, then at least 50% of students and teachers must develop and lead additional individual class projects.

3.	Teachers incorporate a strong reflection component throughout the entire service learning project.  There is evidence of student decision-making throughout the project.

4.	There is a school-wide demonstration/celebration of children who complete a service learning project.

5.	At least one of these criteria is also met:

a.  Strong support of a business partner

b.  Strong support from the PTO/PTA

c.  The Site Based Council endorses a school policy encouraging teachers to incorporate service learning into their curriculum.

6.	75% of the teachers who have led a service learning project also complete the online teacher evaluation survey and return it to the Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement.

 

Second Year Recipients:

1.	MUST MAINTAIN GOALS 1-6 AND THE FOLLOWING:

2.	75% of teachers employed by the school lead a service learning project meeting a genuine community need.

3. The school must have a policy encouraging teachers to incorporate service learning into their curriculum.

4. The school must have an effective service learning liaison that actively encourages teachers in that school to complete service learning projects.
