PARC MODEL STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

STEP 1: PREPARATION

1)The teacher will read the book Froggy Plays in the Band to the students and show the students the different musical instruments in the story. The students will also learn to identify and play instruments through planning activities, pretending to be a band, music and movement activities and story writing. 2) The music teacher will show the students different musical instruments including those that they have in the band room at Twenhofel 3) Students will learn how to play musical instruments, make sound effects and voices for the story 4)The class will talk about what a shelter is and what it means to donate something

STEP 2: ACTION

This may change slightly if we record at Twenhofel. It would just be that we take a trip to the Twenhofel bands room to hear them play music try the musical instruments ourselves and record the story in their band room. 1) The preschool class takes a field-trip to Twenhofel middle school to learn about the larger instruments including the Saxophone, cymbals and drums. The preschool teacher will read the story to the students as they add to sounds and music along with the middle school band members. 2) the class will record the story on tape 3) multiple copies of the tape will be made so that each child in the shelter will have a tape and book.

STEP 3: REFLECTION

1) Students will play musical instruments for the recording 2) students will talk about the different musical instruments 3) students will talk about what a shelter is and what it means to donate something 4)As a reflection activity the students will color and write in a Christmas card that will be sent with the tape and book that they wrap.

STEP 4: CELEBRATION

The children will enjoy a Christmas celebration where we will invite parents into the classroom to listen to our story that we have recorded and to wrap the finished tapes and books.
